A Salvation Army global response

World Evangelisation (Commissioner Dick Krommenhoek)

Since the start of its Christian mission and social outreach in England in 1865, The Salvation Army today operates in 117 countries. "The World for God" has been the vital theme for the Army since the beginning.

The Salvation Army is working in all the time zones of the world, and therewith the sun never goes down over our sacred mission to save souls, make saints and to serve suffering humanity.

Staying true to our global mission requires firstly a strong personal commitment of the youngest Young Soldier to the retired General in loving people into God's Kingdom.  Secondly it requires a crystal clear strategy of every corps, every social institution or any other programme which carries the name of The Salvation Army. And thirdly this calls for a global vision and strategy of the international leaders of The Salvation Army to ‘open fire' in new countries around the world where we believe God's Spirit is leading us to go.

International Ecumenical Relations  (Lt.-Colonel Richard Munn)

This session is directed towards fulfilling the International College for Officers' function of encouraging ‘the vision of the Army's international mission, the spirit of its barrier-breaking internationalism and the success of its worldwide evangelism'.  The Salvation Army can work with other churches, denominations, para-churches, and ecumenical bodies.  This is a high priority for our day and you are asked to embody this value upon return to your appointment.

Sports Ministry (Lieut.-Colonel Ivor Telfer & Ms sarah-Jane Alley)

Sport is becomingincreasingly popular throughout the world and is being used to build relationships and as a means of sharing faith with those who do not yet know the Lord Jesus Christ.  The class will look at sports ministry as a mission tool for the international Salvation Army.  It will also provide an opportunity for delegates to share experiences from around the world where sports ministry is already taking place.
